Thermal pool etiquette

There are so many thermal swimming pools throughout the country, and everyone is welcome to use them (with a small fee). But there are some things to know before your first swim. The biggest thing is that it is illegal to get in the pool without showering (naked) first. Here are the steps you will need to follow when you get to a pool:

  1. Pay at the front desk

  2. Take your shoes off before you enter the locker room

  3. Take all your clothes and shower

  4. Put on your bathing suit

  5. Swim!

  6. When you are done swimming, rinse off again and then dry off in the designated dry off area

  7. Get dressed!

Restaurant Etiquette

  • Kids are welcome at most restaurants in the country. Lots of them also have little play areas for them!

  • Food in Iceland is very expensive. Lots of restaurants have really good lunch soup specials where kids eat for free or for reduced cost.

  • You don’t need to tip here!
